Respite and Holiday Support

At Freedom Support, we understand that a change in routine or environment can be unsettling for some individuals, particularly those with autism or additional support needs. Our respite services are designed to provide families and carers with valuable time to rest and recharge, while ensuring the person they care for continues to receive high-quality, consistent, and person-centred support.

For individuals who are most comfortable in familiar surroundings, we can provide tailored support within the family home. This allows families and carers to take a break with confidence, knowing their loved one is being supported by a trusted and experienced team in an environment where they feel safe and secure. We do ask for advance notice so that we can plan each respite package carefully and ensure the right support is in place.

We also recognise that respite does not always need to take place at home. Some families may prefer support to be provided in an alternative setting, including during a short break or holiday. Freedom Support can work closely with individuals and their families to create a bespoke support package that enables the person to enjoy time away in a way that suits their needs, preferences, and aspirations. This may include support to enjoy a holiday independently or with a companion.

In addition, where families wish to holiday together but an individual continues to require dedicated support, we can provide a support worker to accompany them. This enables the individual to take part in and enjoy the holiday, while also allowing family members to relax and spend quality time together with added reassurance and peace of mind.

Our aim is always to provide flexible, high-quality support that promotes independence, choice, wellbeing, and positive experiences for the individuals and families we work alongside.

Supported Living

Historically we have successfully supported several of our clients to achieve their goal of living independently in their own homes.

Freedom Support are fully committed in working alongside local housing associations and commissioning teams in order to support our clients in making this happen and them being able to realise their dream.

Day Services, Activities and Social Groups

Our Day Service was established in February 2014 in direct response to service user feedback, which identified a need for greater opportunities to build friendships, enjoy meaningful social experiences, and reduce the risk of isolation. Service users expressed a clear preference for a flexible service that could be accessed as needed, without the expectation of long-term commitment.

Today, we offer Day Services every Wednesday, Friday, and on selected Saturdays, alongside a youth club and social group on Tuesday evenings. These sessions provide a welcoming, inclusive, and well-supported environment in which individuals can socialise, develop confidence, strengthen independence, and enjoy a varied programme of engaging activities.

Activities are carefully planned to reflect the interests, preferences, and aspirations of the people we support, and may include life skills development, arts and crafts, music, gaming, technology-based activities, quizzes, social events, community outings, and day trips. We place strong emphasis on choice, involvement, and person-centred planning, ensuring that individuals play an active role in shaping the activities and experiences available to them.

In addition, we use a mobile communication app to share upcoming activities and social opportunities with clients, enabling them to connect with peers during the day or in the evening, with staff support where required. This approach helps to promote social inclusion, nurture friendships, and create valued opportunities for people to participate more fully in their communities.

Education Support

We support individuals to access school, college, and other educational placements where their needs cannot be fully met through mainstream or existing support arrangements alone. Our approach is tailored to the individual, helping to promote engagement, consistency, confidence, and positive educational outcomes within a setting that is right for them.

Work Placement Support

We are committed to helping individuals access meaningful work placement opportunities, whether paid or voluntary. Freedom Support works in partnership with employers and other organisations to provide the support needed for individuals to build confidence, develop skills, and reach their full potential within the workplace. Our focus is on enabling people to participate as fully as possible in opportunities that are both rewarding and purposeful.

Hospital Support

A hospital admission can be unsettling and distressing for anyone, particularly for individuals who may find unfamiliar environments overwhelming or who have difficulty communicating their needs. In some cases, this can increase anxiety and lead to behaviours of distress. Freedom Support can provide support during hospital admissions to offer reassurance, continuity, and the comfort of a familiar presence. This not only helps the individual feel safer and better understood, but also supports hospital staff by providing valuable insight into the person’s needs, preferences, communication, and routines, helping to achieve the best possible outcomes.
